Daoist Shrine Course

Over two days Damo will be leading a small group into an area of Daoism he rarely touches upon. Drawn from the wider aspects of the tradition which he has explored for many years Damo will be teaching some aspects of ritualistic practice. Students will look at the fundamentals of ritualistic Shen Gong according to the northern Daoist sects.

Shrine Usage

According to ancient Chinese tradition, each time a temple establishes a shrine they have to purify and activate it. The correct level of resonance must be in place in order for the shrine to become a spiritual focal point. Elevating a shrine above the level of an ‘ornamental piece’ takes focused will and classical ritual. On this course the group will work together to activate the shrine for the Lotus Nei Gong school which is being put into place within the training space. The space must be cleared of negative Sha Qi, malevolent spiritual influences must be purged and a clean form of information must be established within the room. This process must be repeated for each deity placed upon the shrine and then appropriate Shen Gong practices will be used to invite the correct spiritual influence within the space.

Material covered will include:

  • Establishing a shrine
  • Situating a deity
  • Clearing a space of Sha Qi
  • Purging Gui
  • Ritualistic Mudra
  • Production of classical Fu talismans
  • Connection between ritual and Feng Shui
  • Shen Gong meditative training

Detailed instruction will be given on the use of scents, bells, sounds, Ding structures and Mantra in the case of building and holding a sacred spiritual space for training and practice. Students will assist in the establishing of the Lotus Nei Gong training space as well as learning how to take these skills and apply them to their own practice rooms.

The Nei Gong process taught by Damo Mitchell and Lotus Nei Gong is a classical process and is, at times, very strong. For this reason we do not recommend that anybody with psychological disorders or those with serious medical issues/needs attend these events. There are many ‘medical’ Qi Gong schools out there that would be more appropriate for these kinds of needs. Nei Gong is also not suitable for pregnant women or anybody under the age of 18 years old. Lastly we reserve the right to ask any student to leave the training immediately if we deem the training to be unsuitable for them or a risk to their well-being.
