Internal Alchemy Retreat

  • Week long alchemy retreat in Portugal taught by Damo Mitchell and senior students

  • March 20th – March 26th 2017

Underpinning all of the Daoist arts are the alchemical meditation methods of the tradition. Through cultivation of various aspects of mind-substance within the body Daoists were able to cultivate their spirit to heightened states. These teachings then formed the basis of many of their other arts including Nei Gong and Chinese medicine.

Damo will be leading a seven day long retreat in the algarve of Portugal looking at the subject of Daoist internal alchemy. Through a combination of sitting exercises, standing practices, theoretical lectures and direct transmission Damo will instruct the group in the meditation methods of the Daoists with a focus upon initiating the firing process as well as entering the Shenming state via Zuowang. Intermediate to advanced methods for cultivating the lower and middle Dan Tien will be looked at along with various adjunct tools including Mudra, Mantra and the Xi Sui Jing teachings according to the Daoist tradition.

Course Details

This course is being held in retreat settings at a centre in Portugal near to where Damo and Roni live. Students will stay in shared lodge-style accommodation outside of the town of Almancil in the Algarve. We are away from the town on top of a small hill surrounded by trees with a meditation hall for our practice. The meals provided will be vegetarian and there will be space provided for silent practice for those who wish to continue their training between the scheduled classes. Damo will be living on site and provide close instruction in the alchemical process.

Course Address: Quinta da Calma – Apartado 3053, 8135-901 Almancil, Portugal

Please note that the address above is the official address but it does not work in Satnav’s nor is it easy to find with Google maps! Basically finding your way around the hills of the Algarve can be tricky so we will provide maps and easy transport options closer to the time for applicants on the course. If you book flights to Faro airport then you are very close to the centre and we will give you better details as needed.

The cost of the course includes the seven days training plus all accommodation and three vegetarian meals per day at the centre here in Portugal. The accommodation on-site varies and will go to the people who book first, therefore the first 34 people will have accommodation and thereafter the accommodation will be mattresses on a floor space in one of the other halls.

If you would like to book a space on this course then please use the contact form on this site. Please be aware that our retreats generally book up very quickly so book early to avoid disappointment.

Prerequisites for Course

Note that on this course you will be sitting for hour long sessions of meditation practice so you must be prepared to do this before applying for the course. If you cannot sit in meditation for one hour then you should not attempt this course. Also, those students who are unable to practicer alchemy without the Zi Fa Gong process getting in the way should not apply. This is a silent alchemy retreat (during practice session) and so noise is avoided during the classes.

The Nei Dan process taught by Damo Mitchell and Lotus Nei Gong is a classical process and is, at times, very strong. For this reason we do not recommend that anybody with psychological disorders or those with serious medical issues/needs attend these events. There are many ‘medical’ Qi Gong schools out there that would be more appropriate for these kinds of needs. Nei Gong is also not suitable for pregnant women or anybody under the age of 18 years old. Lastly we reserve the right to ask any student to leave the training immediately if we deem the training to be unsuitable for them or a risk to their well-being.
