Yang Taijiquan Long Form
Yang Taiji Level 2 Course
6th – 7th May
Over two days Damo will be teaching the fundamentals of the Long form, the level 2 material within our Taiji syllabus. This will be Damo’s first course wholly dedicated to the second level of Taijiquan training. Note that this class is being taught on an invite only basis. Those who who are applicable for this training will be sent an individual email inviting them to attend.
Content of Course
The ‘long form’ of our school comes from a slightly different line of the Yang style of Taijiquan then our short form. It is from the Tian Zhoalin line with in turn comes from the Jianhou and Shaohou traditions. Though many of the postures are instantly recognisable as coming from the Yang system of Tajiquan the inner mechanics of the practice are very different from other branches of Yang Taijiquan. In short it is some of the most demanding internal work within any of the Nei Jia systems. This kind of Taiji practice is rarely taught and became less widely spread simply because of the high level of difficulty and discomfort involved in the practice. For this reason, students need a good basis in the Huang form of Yang Taijiquan prior to beginning this training.
On the course Damo will be teaching the Ji Ben Gong of the system including standing and power development as well as the early section of the form and pushing hands principles. The aim is to begin working with a small, ongoing group who will continue to develop this style of Taijiquan over a period of a few years.
